Oppression in Islam and present day protests.

Entire main stream media in west has glorified protests that took place in Tunisia and Egypt and the protests that are taking place in other countries now. They (media) give the impression that western type secular democracy is being desired and sought by Muslims in these countries and so, it will be; many ignorant readers believe this kind of disinformation if not intentional propaganda. Trust me: same media will not cover the follow up to these so called revolutions in same vigor to escape the obvious ridicule as media is never the one to admit and showcase its mistakes.

Ask this question to yourself: If Muslims, who migrated to western countries and who lived there for many years, have not integrated in to secular democratic societies of west then, what makes our intellectuals and media believe that Muslims back in Islamic countries want and support secular democracy!

Democratic pundits commented that this is uprising against oppression. But oppression? So, democracy should be liberating these people from oppression! But what is oppression for Muslims? Lets see this report:
{{{
A group of Muslim preachers issued a statement supporting the revolutions of Tunisia and Egypt while slamming democracy and “un-Islamic” political parties.
A statement issued by 90 preachers and religious scholars from all over the Muslim world praised the revolutions that ousted the dictatorships of Tunisia and Egypt for defeating oppression and ushering in a new era of justice and freedom.....
The statement, however, criticized the revolution’s call for the installation of full democracies. Democracy, Muslim clerics argued, allows the people have the final say in their countries’ affairs, which leads to the prevalence of several un-Islamic practices.
“In democracies, people might vote for things that are prohibited in Islam like establishing brothels, allowing homosexuality, drinking alcohol, and usury, and prohibiting the call for prayers or the veil.”......
The statement also warned of the involvement of “un-Islamic” parties in the countries’ political scene and cited the example of political parties with communist or secular ideologies.....
}}}

Dictatorship may be oppression but, for Muslims it is lack of Islamic rules and law and justice, if there is any, based on Sharia law amounts to oppression. Coming democracy in Egypt and Tunisia without sharia law will continued to be looked down as oppression; either way, opinion polls clearly say that parties based on Islamic ideology are the ones going to do well in elections. When pew opinion polls show that more than 80% of Muslims in Egypt support death penalty for apostates, writing on the wall is pretty clear but not clear enough for seculars and liberals in Non Muslim world.
