A very brief background of Prophet Mohammad

Prophet was born in the year 569 and lost his father very early and then Mother, when he was only 7 years old. Then he was brought up by his grand father and then Uncle Abu Talib. He belongs to a tribe Quraysh, largest and powerful in Mecca. He married a wealthy woman named Khadija when he was 25 and she was 40 (it is not 100% accurate, better to say between 35 and 40) and she was a wealthy merchant. For her this was second or third marriage. She was very powerful and wealthy too. Prophet, before the marriage, worked for her by managing her caravans.

Reading Holy Koran

Koran is the foundational book of Islam. Muslims believe that it is revealed to Prophet Mohammad in stages through Angel Gabriel between 610 Ad and 632 AD.

It is important to know certain things before reading Koran because it is not like other scriptures. Never the less it is better to read Koran and know about Islam and its philosophy, if one do not believe what is written here. It should also be mentioned that just because a Verse of peaceful nature is in Koran, it does't mean that it has meaning or its ruling is applicable today. This is where Koran differs from other religious scriptures. We come to this later.

Koran is divided in to chapters and word for chapter in Arabic is Sura. The chapters contain further instructions which appear numbered and are called verses, Arabic word for verse is Ayah.

Lets listen to what Muslims say. (Part 1)

A certain Pakistani Army officer, Brigadier ( now Retired) S.K. Malik, wrote a book 'The Quranic Concept of War' in 1979; in the preface written by Allah Bukhsh K. Brohi, the former Pakistan's ambassador to India, we read the following:
"But in Islam war is waged to establish supremacy of the Lord only when every other argument has failed to convince those who reject His Will and work against the every purpose of the creation of mankind."
